Hearty Party Soup for Fire, Grill & Outdoor Events
Whether it's a garden party, winter event, or camping weekend – this creamy gyros soup is a true crowd-pleaser. Hearty gyros meat, bell peppers, mushrooms, and a spicy tomato-cream base make it the perfect Dutch oven party soup.
Prepared in a Dutch Oven or a Wizard kettle, it becomes a real outdoor highlight.

2–3 tbsp oil
For the Soup
-
600 g cream cheese spread
-
500 g strained tomatoes

1 liter broth
-
200 ml cream
-
200 g crème fraîche
-
350 g mushrooms
-
1 red bell pepper
-
1 yellow bell pepper
-
285 g corn (drained)
-
1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, if needed)
-
2 tsp gyros spice mix
-
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
-
½ tsp chili powder
-
Oil for frying
Preparation (recommended the day before)
Cut the meat into fine strips.
Mix with oil, gyros spice mix, and coarsely chopped onion.
Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 12–24 hours.
👉 This ensures intense flavor and tender meat.
Preparation in the Dutch Oven / Wizard Kettle
1️. Prepare ingredients
- Slice mushrooms
- Dice bell peppers
- Drain corn
2️. Brown the meat
Preheat the Dutch Oven well.
Add oil.
Brown the gyros meat vigorously in batches to develop roasted aromas (not all at once, otherwise it will just boil).
3️. Liquid & Base
Deglaze with broth.
Stir in strained tomatoes and cream.
Season with pepper, chili powder, and a little gyros spice mix.
Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes.
4️. Add vegetables
Add bell peppers, mushrooms, and corn.
Simmer for another 10–15 minutes.
👉 The vegetables should be soft, but not overcooked.
5️. Perfect the creaminess
Stir in crème fraîche and cream cheese spread.
Let it melt slowly.
If the soup is too thin:
Mix cornstarch with a little cold water and stir it in.
Taste and adjust seasoning again.
Heat Tips
In a Dutch Oven (9 QT):
21 briquettes total
→ 7 on the bottom
→ 14 on the top
In a Wizard Kettle over wood:
Medium, constant heat
Don't let it boil too strongly – gentle simmering is perfectly sufficient.
