Grilled asparagus

Green asparagus with crispy ham

Grilled asparagus is a simple yet sophisticated side dish for any barbecue. Green asparagus is particularly well-suited for grilling, as it cooks quickly while retaining its delicate flavor.

Combined with flavorful ham, this creates a light yet delicious grilled dish. The ham becomes crispy on the outside, while the asparagus remains tender and firm to the bite inside.

This recipe works on both gas and charcoal grills and is ready in just a few minutes.

Ingredients (for approx. 3-4 servings)

500g green asparagus

8–10 slices of raw ham (e.g. Serrano or Parma ham)

1–2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt

freshly ground pepper

1. Prepare the asparagus

Wash the asparagus spears and cut off the lower, woody ends .

Mix the asparagus in a bowl with olive oil.

Season with salt and pepper.

2. Wrap the asparagus

Wrap several asparagus spears with a slice of ham each.

Make sure that the asparagus is completely enclosed by the ham.

3. Prepare the grill

Preheat the grill to medium heat (approx. 180–200 °C) .

Place the asparagus parcels directly onto the grill rack.

4. Barbecue

Grill the asparagus parcels for about 8-10 minutes .

Turn the ham over once in between to ensure it becomes crispy all around.

The asparagus should be tender, but still slightly firm to the bite .


Serve

Grilled asparagus goes perfectly with:

  • Steak or grilled meat
  • Grilled fish
  • fresh baguette
