Moink Balls – BBQ finger food cooked in a cast iron pan

Moink Balls are among the most popular BBQ snacks from the USA.

The name is a combination of "Moo" (beef) and "Oink" (pork) – and that's exactly what they consist of: seasoned beef meatballs, wrapped in crispy bacon.

Inside, a melted cheese core awaits, making these small spheres a real highlight at any barbecue party. Moink Balls can be perfectly prepared on the grill in a cast iron pan and served directly in it.

Perfect as finger food, party snack, or appetizer at a BBQ.

Ingredients (for approx. 10 Moink Balls)

500 g ground beef
10 slices of bacon
5 Babybel (halved)

BBQ Glaze:

5 tbsp BBQ sauce of your choice
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp cola

Spices:

1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika powder (sweet)

Preparation

1. Prepare meatballs

Season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and paprika powder and mix well.

Form 10 portions from the mixture.
Press a half Babybel into the center of each and completely enclose it with the ground meat.

2. Wrap with bacon

Wrap each meatball with a slice of bacon.
If necessary, the bacon can be secured with a toothpick.

3. Prepare the grill

Preheat the grill to approximately 180 °C indirect heat.

Place the Moink Balls in a cast iron pan or on a grill plate and grill indirectly.

4. Make the glaze

Whisk together BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and cola in a small bowl.

5. Grill Moink Balls

Grill the Moink Balls indirectly for about 20–25 minutes, until cooked through.

During the last 10 minutes, brush them several times with the BBQ glaze to create a slightly caramelized surface.

6. Serve

Let the finished Moink Balls rest briefly and serve them directly from the cast iron pan.

They pair perfectly with:

  • Coleslaw
  • BBQ dips
  • Bread or baguette
  • Grilled vegetables
