Fruity, juicy & perfect for outdoor bakers
Whether on the grill, over briquettes, or in your home oven – fruity muffins are always a good idea. These apple and pear muffins are baked in a Mini Dutch Oven, giving them an especially juicy texture with a slightly crispy edge.
The combination of sweet apples, juicy pears, and cinnamon makes them a true comfort food – perfect for camping, the garden, or the patio.
Why bake in a Mini Dutch Oven?
Cast iron stores heat optimally and distributes it evenly. This allows the muffins to rise beautifully and develop a delicate, golden crust. Ideal for anyone who doesn't want to miss out on fresh baked goods, even outdoors.
Ingredients (for approx. 6–8 Mini Dutch Oven Muffins)
- 250 g soft butter
- 200 g sugar
- 4 eggs (size M)
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 250 g flour
- 1 packet baking powder (approx. 15 g)
- 3 apples
- 3 pears
- 1–2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2–3 tsp cinnamon (to taste)
- 1 handful chopped almonds
- Optional: 2–3 tbsp mineral water for extra lightness
Preparation
1. Prepare the dough
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Stir in eggs one at a time.
Add vanilla sugar.
Mix flour with baking powder and stir into the mixture until a smooth dough forms.
If the dough seems too thick, stir in a little mineral water.
2. Prepare the fruit
Peel, core, and dice the apples and pears.
Drizzle with lemon juice (to prevent browning) and mix with cinnamon.
Gently fold the fruit and chopped almonds into the dough.
3. Prepare the Mini Dutch Oven
Grease the Mini Dutch Oven or line it with parchment paper.
Fill with dough to about 2/3 (not to the brim – they will rise!).
Baking in the Oven
Bake at 180 °C top/bottom heat for approx. 25–30 minutes.
Do a skewer test – if no dough sticks, the muffins are done.
Baking in the Dutch Oven (Outdoor)
-
Bring the Mini Dutch Oven to approx. 180 °C
-
Keep bottom heat moderate
-
Generate more heat from above (briquettes on the lid)
Baking time: approx. 25–35 minutes, depending on heat distribution.
Check periodically to prevent burning.
Result
Juicy, cinnamony muffins with a fruity core and a slightly crispy crust – perfect with coffee, cocoa, or as a sweet end to a BBQ evening.
