Hearty, creamy & quick to make
Sometimes you don't need a complicated recipe – just an honest, warm comfort food.
These Käsespätzle are quick to make, wonderfully creamy, and get a golden cheese crust in the oven.
Ingredients (for 4 people)
-
1 kg fresh Spätzle (from the refrigerated section)
-
1 large onion (sliced into rings or diced)
-
100–150 g diced bacon
-
250 ml cream
-
200–250 g Emmental cheese (grated)
-
½ bunch parsley (chopped)
-
1 tbsp butter
-
Salt & freshly ground pepper
-
Optional: a pinch of nutmeg
Preparation
1. Sauté onions & bacon
Heat butter in an oven-safe cast iron pan.
Sauté onions and bacon over medium heat until golden brown.
2. Toast the Spätzle
Add Spätzle directly to the pan and fry for 3–4 minutes.
This gives them more flavor and prevents them from getting too soft.
3. Creamy base
Pour in the cream and mix everything well.
Season with salt, pepper, and optionally nutmeg.
Stir in half of the cheese until melted.
4. Bake
Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly over the top.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C top/bottom heat
for approx. 15–20 minutes until a golden brown crust forms.
5. Serve
Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve directly from the pan.
Tip:
If you prefer it more traditional, you can replace some of the cream with a little broth or sprinkle crispy fried onions on top.
