Crispy Party Classic from the Fire Pot
Sausages in puff pastry – also known as "Sausage Rolls" – are a true classic. Whether for the next party, a buffet, a children's birthday, or simply as a quick snack for the family: This recipe is easy to make in a Dutch oven, on the grill, or in the oven.
Golden brown and crispy on the outside, juicy and hearty on the inside – finger food doesn't get much easier.
Ingredients (approx. 20–30 pieces)
-
2 packages puff pastry (refrigerated)
-
10 sausages from a jar
-
1 egg
-
2 tbsp milk
-
A little oil for greasing
Optional: Sesame or poppy seeds for sprinkling
Preparation in a Dutch oven
1. Preparation
Drain the sausages and cut each into 2–3 pieces (depending on desired size).
Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into rectangles – the pieces should be large enough to completely roll up the sausages.
2. Rolling
Place one sausage piece in the middle of a dough piece and roll it up tightly.
Lightly press the seam and place it face down.
Lightly oil the Dutch oven.
Place the sausage rolls in it with some space in between (not too close, as the puff pastry will rise).
3. Brushing
Whisk the egg with milk and brush the puff pastry rolls with it.
Optionally sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
4. Baking
In a Dutch oven with briquettes:
-
Temperature approx. 180 °C (350°F)
-
Baking time: 20–30 minutes
-
Ensure even top and bottom heat
-
Check periodically to prevent burning
Alternatively in the oven or on the grill (indirect heat):
-
180 °C (350°F)
-
approx. 20–25 minutes
They are ready when the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.
Serving
Perfect with:
-
Ketchup
-
Mustard
-
BBQ sauce
-
Sweet chili sauce
Serve warm – that's when they taste best.
