Crispy Streusel Delight from the Cocotte
This apple crumble is the epitome of uncomplicated dessert happiness. Essentially, it's a streusel cake without a base – juicy, fruity, and wonderfully crispy all at once. Perfect for spontaneous guests or for making good use of ripe apples.
Whether in a large baking dish or in small mini Dutch ovens or cocottes – this way, everyone gets their own warm dessert. And yes: fresh from the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it's simply unbeatable.
Ingredients (for 4–6 servings)
-
6 apples
-
150 g cold butter
-
150 g sugar
-
270 g flour
-
2 tsp cinnamon
Optional:
Vanilla ice cream, vanilla sauce or powdered sugar
Preparation
1. Prepare apples
Wash apples, core them and cut into small cubes.
The peel can stay on – this provides more flavor and a nice texture. If you prefer it finer, peel the apples beforehand.
Lightly grease mini cocottes or a baking dish with butter and add the apple pieces.
Tip: If you like it particularly aromatic, you can also mix the apples with 1 tbsp lemon juice and some vanilla sugar.
2. Make the crumble topping
Cut cold butter into pieces.
Knead with flour, sugar and cinnamon to form crumbles – either with your hands or with a dough hook.
The mixture should be crumbly, not too fine.
Spread the crumbles generously over the apples.
3. Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C top/bottom heat for approx. 25–30 minutes until the crumbles are golden brown and the apples are gently bubbling.
It also works perfectly in a grill (indirect heat).
Serving
The apple crumble tastes best when still warm – with:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Vanilla sauce
- a dollop of cream
- or simply plain
A quick dessert that tastes of home, autumn, and cozy evenings.
Enjoy!
